SPOTLIGHT: Mimi Youn

Polaroids from Mimi Youn in her series ‘meme by mimi’ 2008.  I love the emotional charge and the rawness of the images – its tangible.  Her desire to focus more on her action during the developing rather than the result of the image is evident.  Reckless creativity.  I like it.

“Usually photography regarded as a medium that could not present an artist’s subjective viewpoint because of its specific character ‘describing reality’. So many artists have experimented in various ways; photo montage, photo collage, photo novel and photo sequence so on.  I was tired of expressing my ideas as typical ‘photographs”. Also there was a limit to showing my thinking, emotional things as the photographs: I wanted to add something to my photographs.”
