My first encounter with the work of Japanese photographer Rinko Kawauchi was sat on the floor of the Photographers Gallery Bookshop.  Browsing along the shelves I came across this lone paper back book.  As I opened the pages my breath was taken away.  The images were so beautiful and sensitive.  I bought that book ‘Utatane’ without any hesitation.  Since then my collection of her books has grown, but I still get that breath of calm thumbing through the pages.
