SPOTLIGHT: Thomas Kneubühler

Electric Mountains, 2009

This work caught my eye – I’m not sure why.  So often its easy to be attracted to the colour saturated night photo, but I have almost become a little board of them.  However as I said this work caught my eye. There is something quite majestic about a mountain illumination.

Thomas Kneubühler was born in Solothurn, Switzerland.  He now lives and works in Montréal, Canada.

“When I first came to Canada, I remember driving on the highway passing a mountain full of lights. It looked to me like a surreal landscape, almost like an installation or a land-art project. Later I found out that this mountain was illuminated by 500 000 watts of lights and was used for night skiing. I was stunned.”
